Terms and Conditions

Last updated 10 September 2026

These terms apply when you use the VDI Check service by texting a vehicle registration to 78111. By sending that text you accept them. Please also read our Privacy Policy.

1. Who we are

The service is provided by VDI Check Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 15451937, registered office 5 Brayford Square, London, E1 0SG. You can contact us at help@vdicheck.com or +44 330 551 0522.

2. The service, and what it costs

You text a UK vehicle registration to 78111. We search the records described in section 4 and text you back a report on that vehicle, usually within seconds.

Charges appear on your mobile bill or come out of your pay-as-you-go credit. Depending on your network and account, you may be charged immediately or when you next top up. You must be 18 or over, or have the permission of the person who pays the bill, before using the service.

3. What the report is — and what it is not

This is the most important section of these terms, so we have set it out plainly.

We report, accurately and in good faith, what each data source told us at the moment your check was run. We take reasonable care to search the right records and to pass on what they say without altering it.

We do not create that data, and we cannot independently verify it. It is compiled and supplied by third parties — finance houses, insurers, the police, government agencies and mileage registers — each of which records and updates information on its own timetable and to its own standards.

It follows that:

We provide the service on a best-efforts basis and without any guarantee as to the accuracy, completeness or currency of the underlying data.

We do not offer a data guarantee. Some vehicle history providers offer a financial guarantee that pays out if their data turns out to be wrong. We do not, and our price reflects that. Our responsibility is limited as set out in section 7.

4. Where the information comes from

CheckSourceKnown limits

Stolen markerPolice data feed derived from the Police National Computer Only vehicles reported to and recorded by police. A recent theft may not yet appear.

5. Using the service properly

6. Cancelling, and refunds

Because the report is delivered to you immediately, by texting your registration you are asking us to begin straight away and you acknowledge that you lose the 14-day right to cancel that normally applies to contracts made at a distance.

That does not affect your legal rights. If we fail to deliver a report, deliver the wrong vehicle's report, or charge you incorrectly, contact us at help@vdicheck.com and we will refund you. We deal with refund requests promptly and sympathetically.

7. Our responsibility to you

We will provide the service with reasonable care and skill, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Subject to that, and because of the nature of the data described in section 3, our total liability to you in connection with any check is limited to the amount you paid for that check. We are not liable for losses arising from your decision to buy, sell, keep or reject a vehicle, including the price you paid, repair costs, loss of value, or loss of profit.

We do not exclude or limit anything that would leave you without the rights the law gives you as a consumer.

8. Availability

We aim to keep the service running at all times, but we depend on mobile networks and third-party data suppliers. We may suspend the service for maintenance or where a supplier is unavailable. If we cannot complete a check you have paid for, we will refund it.

9. Marketing messages, and stopping them

We may occasionally text you about similar services. Reply STOP to any message from 78111 and we will stop immediately and permanently.

10. Complaints

Please contact us first at help@vdicheck.com or +44 330 551 0522, and we will try to resolve matters quickly.

Phone-paid services in the UK are regulated by the Phone-paid Services Authority. If you are not satisfied with our response you can contact the PSA at psauthority.org.uk or on 0300 30 300 20.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version published on this page when you send your text is the version that applies to that check.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may bring proceedings in your own country.
